The Department of Information Technology was established in the year 1999 with introduction of B.Tech. course with a modest 30 seats. In the very next year (i.e. 2000), the intake doubled to 60 and was further increased to 90 in the year 2001. Since 2002, the sanctioned intake is 120.
On 9th Nov, 2009, IBM's Center of Excellence was inaugurated in the presence of Ms Janet Klein, Director, Developer Relations at IBM Asia Pacific and Mr Himanshu Goyal, Country Manager, IBM Academic Initiatives, Developer Works & Globalization. In 2013, the Department became a a SAP University Alliance Partner under SAP's University Alliances Programme and established Nokia Mobile Innovation Labs with financial assistance from Nokia University Relations, Finland.
