Department of Physics, JSSATEN is a lively department with an active research program in various branches of Physics. The department offers two theories and two practical subjects as per the syllabus of affiliated university to all the B.Tech 1st year students. It also offers a host of science based open elective subjects to B.Tech II year students.
There is symbolic relationship between physics and engineering. Broadly speaking, engineering is mainly applied physics. The present day technological developments have been a result of joint efforts of Physicists and Engineers. A proper study along with experimental skill of physics is therefore indispensable for an engineering student to excel in his field.
The department of physics is providing a sound physics background, which is required for all engineering disciplines. The department has a well equipped laboratory for B.Tech. students, where experiments are designed to broaden experimental skill related to various branches of engineering and technology.
Physics is the crown jewel of all sciences, making an elegant link between the understanding of the deeply fundamental and the powerfully practical. Effective instruction in physics happens when we create environments in which students are encouraged and helped to engage their minds, and build reasoning. We have found student learning comes about through carefully planned and structured lectures, recitations and laboratories especially to the generally bright students that we get here in JSS, therefore apart from the regular curriculum we have also implemented project work for all the students of B.Tech 1st year the idea was to increase the basic understanding of the subject amongst the students .The credit goes to the students for taking part in this wholeheartedly and projecting many unique and novel ideas.
The titles of some of the projects like hovercraft, security system , 10-segment display , optical fiber display , free generation of electricity etc. themselves convey how innovative and enterprising our students can be. They give a very detailed viva on their project and are supposed to know in detail about all the components they are using like year the idea was to increase the basic understanding transformers, diodes, resistors , capacitors , IC’s , optical fibres , LDR and basic lasers etc.
The students ardently work in a group for designing and presentation of their project work using Internet, books and various journals. The students are required to submit a project report with due help of faculty and also make a power point presentation.
Students presented their projects on latest research areas based concepts like Seeback effect, Solar car, Modern Window, Hydraulic arm, USB Digital audio player, Smart house, Application of solar energy, Light House, Piezeo electricity, Water Purifier, Digital thermometer, Vande-graff generator, Hovercraft, working of projector, water level indicator, electricity generation by speed breakers, Carbide cannon etc.
Optical fiber lab is equipped with optical fiber kits ( ST 2501) and CRO for necessary tracing & analysis. In this lab students are trained to calculate the advanced features of fiber like Numerical Aperture, Bending loss in optical fiber, intensity modulation of analog & digital signal & demodulation, frequency modulation ,Pulse width modulation, Bit loss V-I characteristics of LED etc.
This experiment includes Rotary Pump, Pirani gauge & vacuum chamber. On performing this experiment students learn the technique of vacuum generation by rotary pump & measurement of pressure using pirani gauge.
Ultrasonic lab is equipped with ultrasonic kit (NV 6109) and liquid cell for the generation of ultrasonic waves. In this lab students can produce ultrasonic waves, can measure their velocity and can detect position of an object etc.
