Course Students Intake Duration
Master of Computer Applications 60 3 Years

The Programme’s thrust is on giving the students a thorough and sound background in theoretical and application-oriented courses relevant to latest computer applications development. The programme emphasizes strong theoretical foundations and hands-on practical work. The students exhibit their learning as their projects for which the entire final semester is devoted. Department of Computer Applications endeavours to provide envigoraping academic ambience to nurture their technical skills and come up as thorough professionals.

The Department encourages its faculty to attend Conferences/ Seminars/ Symposiums/ Orientation Programs/FDP’s to acquire high teaching & research standards. Most of the Faculty Members of the Department are involved in research in various branches of Computer Applications. Their work is published in journals of repute and presented in various National/International Conferences in India and abroad.

MCA Students have been devoting their final semester entirely for project work which has been of high quality. One of the recent projects taken up by three MCA students (with an entrepreneur located in Software Technology Entrepreneur Park within the campus) has converted to a product named ‘Panini’ which offers a means to type in 11 languages of India on the mobile phone. It is also a means to transliterate between the languages. Extending the Indian language texting technology for English to a new predictive text technology has also converted to a product called ‘Clever Texting’. SMS compression is a pioneering effort. The other major projects taken up are at BHEL, WIPRO, Infosys, ORACLE, HCL, HP, KEAN, TCS, Accenture, MAQ, Mindfire, Tech Mahindra, Induslogic, IBM etc.

One of the most encouraging features of the Department is the nature of interaction of senior students with the junior running batches which help them in all round development e.g. making them comfortable for training & placement with various industries (like Induslogic, HCL, CSC, Hewitt, IBM) besides conducting programming labs in the evening under aegis of Departmental Society aptly named OPTIMISTS. The OPTIMISTS Team has won top positions in the Tech fests held at HBTI Kanpur, and, Thapar University, Patiala. The Society organized three events during the in-house Tech Fest Zealicon’09 inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor, UPTU. MCA Third Year students have also been awarded certificates for participating in ”The Great Mind Challenge-2008“ National Software Development Program by IBM.
