Faults can occur in any components of power system including generator, transformer, buses
and transmission lines. The transmission line is one of the main component of power system
and being exposed to the environmental conditions, the possibility of experiencing faults on the
transmission system is generally higher than that on other components, therefore the detection of
faults on transmission lines is the primary concern, necessitating high speed fault clearance and
improved transient stability.
The Renewable energy is rapidly becoming competitive with conventional fossil fuel sources
and already today wind power generation is at par with new coal or gas fired power stations. The
wind turbine design objectives have changed over the past decade from being convention-driven
to being optimized driven within the operating regime and market environment

The Control Centre for power system, in
a SCADA set up, is the location from where the operator / system engineer
monitors the health of the power system and issues necessary control
instructions. The operator / system engineer at the control centre operate
the power system in a shift of 6-8 hour duration.
Power systems over the worldwide becoming complex day to day and continuous requirements
are coming for stable, secured, controlled, economic and better quality power. These
requirements become more essential when environment becoming more vital and important
deregulation. Power transfer Capacity in transmission system is limited due to various factors
such as steady state stability limit, thermal limit, transient stability limit and system damping or
even negative damping
The data in the field are captured through appropriate transducer and transmitted to
RTU. During this process noise, uncertainty, and ambiguity are added in the data
acquired by the SCADA system.
